Last Tuesday I was at a centre where they taught these birds how to hunt and come back…
'the coming back' is very important, while demonstrating the birds got a GPS,
so if they did not come back 'the teacher' could track them down.
Only birds born in captivity are able to be trained, it takes about 3 to 4 weeks,
they only are allowed to eat from the hand and they eat 'one-day-chickens'
I was able to let the owl fly to me; my husband took that one picture.
The big owl with the orange eyes is a twilight zone hunter
owls with black eyes are night hunters.

Amazing collection of shots. It must be one heck of an experience being that close to these beautiful creatures.
Picturit: It was my first meet-up with these stunning birds, I loved every second of it.
Astrid.
It's a FABULOUS collage, Astrid! How exhilarating this must have been for you to experience this up close and personal. You actually look like you're the trainer. BRAVO. And yes, I finally found your signature.
Picturit: I think I could be the trainer, I love these animals, they just have to trust me and I have to gain their confidence..it would be so great to have them come back to me in the open fields.....
Thank you so much for your lieve woorden as always, Astrid.
A fine montage of shots of beautiful birds, Astrid.
I like the montage style, with its black borders. Raptors are beautiful animals. And...two self-portraits in two days!
Picturit: Ray, I think these birds are the kings of the sky, I loved every second of it, I learned a lot that day....I might throw in a self portrait again some time.
Astrid
Hi Astrid. Congratulations on gettingt all the great shots into one glorious picture.
The owl with the red eyes. It think it's a screech owl. When I lived in Arizona, I found one outside my front door on the porch, staring at me with that very same look. Of course, I had to push Meadow (my little dog) back in the house, because I'm sure the owl was contemplating her as the next meal.
Picturit: Their claws are dangerous....and never let go, I learned that that day, it much have been some special experience to find an owl so close by.
Astrid.
Wow Astrid. Good to see you again. Great shots you have here. It must have been fun to interact with the owls. Thanks for teaching me something new - the twilight hunter has orange eyes. Never knew that!
Picturit: I know 2 days in a row on SC.....it was a very unique experience for me, I am glad I can give some information, I always love to read others too
Thank you for your kind words. Astrid
Great photos the twilight hunter is most atractive.Like Ginnie it took me some time today to find the Astrid 2008.

Astrid.

Picturit: They are great animals, kings of the sky and very clever.
Astrid.
great collage
Picturit: Thank you Chantal.
Astrid.
That's fascinating Astrid. I didn't know about the eye colour being related to when they hunt. Interestingly though, I had a barn owl fly right across my path one day last week on the school run, it was about 4.30pm and very bright.
Lovely montage and congratulations on the 200!
Picturit: Jose, you are the first to notice it is my 200st post, THANK YOU.
Maybe the owl was awakened by something, it is rare that they fly in bright day light. Astrid.
Goedemorgen and heartlijke groeten von de vaste briefchrijfer, chad, Astrid. I give in as I finally cannot find your name on this image. I failed but there it is. Perhaps i did not trink enough coughie, perhaps i trink too much jasmin tee?
Picturit: My dear Chad, goedenavond, my name...my kingdom for my name...where did it go...(it is not fair), I saw you comment again and you found it....Jasmin tee, makes you hard of hearing....what did you say....not shortsighted...
too much coughie makes you drive on the wrong side of the street. Astrid.
Look at you there, an expert. The birds are just splendid, and your photos so good. Mr. Twilight Zone's portrait is especially great. And Snowy against the black. Please train them to stay away from our chickens!!!
Picturit: Yep, I do hope that my Kuifje is safe from the claws of these animals...they eat them in one big bite....
Thank you for your kind words..I would love to train them...Mr.Twilight Zone is my favourite too. Astrid.
joli montage.
Picturit: Merci beaucoup pour votre mots aimable, thank you so much.
Astrid

Excellent composition of this collage. Each picture has outstanding details and clarity. Great job!
Picturit: John, your words do mean a lot to me, it was so great to capture these birds, I had so much to show,
Astrid.
I found it! I found it! I was looking too hard and thought, "Where is Astrid", then, "Of course", but then, wong again for you have left your traditional mark, and so cleverly and more dicreet than ever before.
hardly grovelling from the not-too-vast text stamper
Picturit: I am so glad that you found it, I felt kind of bad, me knowing you would sleep bad, thinking and thinking, not even counting all the sheep of texel would have put you a sleep...
I know, Koffie, Jasmin Tee, Coughie, Kopje Thee, Water, Limonade...it is all bad...... See you tomorrow, your very vast study letter writer e-mailer by google mail....on a laptop on the island of Texel....
200 and I missed it earlier!!
You have aged well mijn vriend|
Picturit: It is my good looks that keep me so young.....and the running around on the beach....THANKS Tracy, you are a true Musketeer.
Astrid.

I love owls and their expressive faces. Very nice, Astrid.

Astrid.
Thanks for the notes, Astrid, and thebeautiful images, especially the the big owl.
Picturit: You are so welcome Alan, the big one is my dear friend.....
Astrid.
Goodness, I had no idea they could be trained so quickly, I thought it would take much longer than 3-4 weeks.
Love the group of pictures Astrid, and I won't say too much about the Barn Owl's table manners!
Picturit: Ellie, I was impressed by that amount of time too, but they are birds born in captivity, so they see us as their own...we are not the enemy, it would be great to be able to train these birds, the falcon was to well fed, so that one was not able to fly, it would not come back and falcons fly very high and than dive down with great speed, sometimes 240 miles an hour.
When I saw how they ate I had to laugh....I always see the humor in that... AStrid.
Beautiful shots Astrid, they are gorgeous birds.
Picturit: Aussie they are, I never was so close to them, it was a great experience.
Astrid.
We have owls near us and often hear them at night - and I have seen a falcon on the wing. Strange how quiet everything goes when they are flying. Great collection of shots too and it took me ages to find the logo ;o)
Picturit: Mike, the trainer showed us the side of the feathers, there are small 'hairs' to reduce the sound, so they fly soundless, the falcon can see 7 times better than we can, that is why the leather 'hood' so it does not get distracted,
Owls make nice sounds though...there is one in the forest nearby too. Astrid.
your best yet logo - only You would avoid the obvious 'tee shirt' option
I wish I had eyes that colour
Picturit:
Astrid.
Nice Compilation
Picturit: Thank you so much, it was my pleasure.
Astrid.

Astrid.
WOW! These are incredible birds..and amazing photos of them. Wasn't it a bit scarey to be that up close and personal?
Love how you've put together the collage to tell the story.
Picturit: Marcie, it was so exciting to see it flying to me and it felt to light, I had so many pictures to show, so I decided to make these in a collage, I kind of love to tell stories with my pictures.
Thank you for your kind words. Astrid.
